The Economic Development & Advocacy Advisory Council works with elected officials, community leaders, Chamber Members, and other organizations to shape policies that help to promote business creation, sustainability, and growth.
April 4 Council Meeting:
Economic Impact of New Contractor Law
- Contractor or Employee?
- Which Industries Are Most Impacted?
- Misclassification of Independent Contractors
- Payment, Benefits and Taxes
- Risk Mitigation
An independent contractor is classified as an individual who does work for an individual or company. By definition a contractor must be independent and not an employee of the hiring company. Cleaning services are a perfect example of an independent contractor. The cleaners come into your office to do work, however they are not considered employees of your company.
