FLSA Wage Law Forum

Navigating the New Overtime Rule

Understanding the New Fair Labor Standards Act

Denise Visconti, Managing Partner of Littler Mendelson, explains the new regulation from the Department of Labor that will greatly expand the number of employees who must be paid overtime compensation when they have worked more than 40 hours in a week. Deadline for compliance is December 1.

The new regulation will dramatically raise the salary threshold so that more employees will fall under it, meaning that employers will have to either increase their salary to keep them exempt, or reclassify them to being hourly wage earners who can earn overtime.

Thomas Daugherty of Klinedinst PC addresses how the minimum wage hike will bring many changes for employers, who must prepare for the increase as well as examine other pay practices that might be affected by it.
