Sunrise at Dusk - A Fusion of Sight and Sound

Sunrise at Dusk - A Fusion of Sight and Sound

The San Diego Master Chorale joins with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) Soloists Ensemble in a unique performance of the “Sunrise Mass” conducted by YPO Artistic Director Alyze Dreiling. Not quite sacred or secular, this work uses only the voice and strings to create an ethereal atmosphere in four movements derived from ancient texts. Composer Ola Gjeilo, a rising star in the classical music world, is also a film buff and listeners will hear the influence of cinematic music in this exquisite piece, which will be further enhanced by the imagery of photographer Gary Payne.

The program also includes The Bizet/Schedrin Carmen Suite, a witty and amusing take on Bizet's famed opera score, which will be performed by the YPO Soloists Ensemble and new Percussion Ensemble. The Master Chorale will begin the program with a lyrical selection of choral works by composers ranging from Gabrieli to Tavener.
