It is the latest addition to the Chamber’s line-up of five advisory councils, giving members the chance to learn about the technological direction of the region. The Cyber-Tech Advisory Council is dedicated to exploring and advancing technology and cybersecurity initiatives in San Diego County, and its creation marks a significant step forward in fostering a secure and informed environment for businesses, organizations, and individuals in our everchanging digital age. The inaugural meeting of the Cyber-Tech Advisory Council was held on October 25, 2023, with Ian Brazill from The San Diego Regional Cyber Lab as the guest speaker. The San Diego Regional Cyber Lab is on a mission “is to provide the greater San Diego region with coordinated cybersecurity awareness through collaborative access to tools, intelligence, and a trained and capable workforce.” Mr. Brazill enlightened attendees about the pressing concerns related to cybercrime, which constitutes the third-largest economy in the world, and he also discussed the valuable programs and resources offered by The San Diego Regional Cyber Lab to the community. Cybercrime refers to criminal activities carried out in the digital realm, encompassing a wide range of illegal activities such as hacking, data breaches, identity theft, and online fraud. It poses a significant threat to businesses and individuals in our increasingly interconnected world. The Cyber-Tech Advisory Council is committed to spreading awareness about the future of digital infrastructure and cybersecurity in our community. The council will collaborate with elected officials, community leaders, Chamber Members, technology experts, and relevant stakeholders to address critical issues within the realm of tech innovation. Areas of Focus: Artificial Intelligence: The council will advocate for the responsible adoption, implementation, and governance of AI in the business environment. Cybersecurity and Data Protection: Focusing on strong cybersecurity practices to safeguard businesses and individuals from cyber threats, data breaches, and digital attacks. Digital Infrastructure and Connectivity: Working to improve and expand digital infrastructure and connectivity within the region. Technology Innovation and Adoption: Encouraging technological advancements and emerging technologies for the benefit of businesses and the region. Digital Skills and Workforce Development: Advocating for initiatives that promote digital skills training, upskilling, and workforce development. Digital Privacy and Ethics: Advocating for policies that uphold digital privacy rights and ethical considerations in the use of technology. Members of the Cyber-Tech Advisory Council will serve as strategic advisors, offering their expertise and insights on technology-related matters. Through collaborative discussions and information-sharing, they will contribute to the Chamber's official stance on technology policies and digital initiatives affecting businesses in San Diego.
